Lately we have been getting asked more and more about communicating with Physicians via the Intranet.  Keeping Physicians up to date with information and also on current initiatives at the hospital through effective communication can lead to increased satisfaction and ultimately increased revenues.  Many of our existing customers are doing a great job of this with our system so I thought I would take a few minutes and share ideas on ways you can use the HospitalPortal.net system to keep in touch with your Physicians.

Start by setting up a secure page on the Intranet for your Physicians as a centralized place to communicate. Share this with them at your next meeting and let them know about how it will be used. Be sure to ask for their input and create a feedback form on the Intranet and link it to their page. If you don’t already have it, consider our Login Manager to provide secure remote access to the page for your Physicians so they can access content from their homes and offices.

It’s been reported that the first baby boomers will be reaching the retirement age of 65 within the next year. Along with the aging of this very large demographic hospitals and healthcare organizations are beginning to grow in order to support this influx of patients and with that hospital staff sizes have increased. Administering staff communications within the hospital can be streamlined with the implementation of a hospital-wide intranet but there’s more to an intranet than just communications.

We know the title may be obvious but often times this is something that can be completely overlooked when discussing or planning strategies that involves aligning your physicians with the goals of your organization whether they are financial or patient satisifaction goals. The reason why we bring this up is because of a recent article published here that gives some great suggestions on way to align your physicians with financial goals.

We”d like to take it a step further and add an additional point to the article: Improving Communication with Physicians.

With the web playing a key role in almost every one”s lives these days you can easily use dedicated intranet pages that are only accessible by physicians to communicate key goals or initiatives. In addition to providing the pages it would also be suggested that you allow the physicians to have access to these from outside the hospital. This may require an additional layer of security but it would mean that your physicians can access important information from their homes or offices.

With a growing population an intranet is a vital piece of technology to have in place no matter what size your hospital  or clinic. An intranet is an efficient platform to provide communication and documents to both clinical and non-clinical staff.  A recent article entitled 6 Key Practices for Community Hospitals highlighted some thoughts on meeting the demand in a community healthcare environment.
